bugs fixed

  • PerfAnalyzer: Fixed sporadic errors in profiling sub-view when profiling short CPU trace ranges.
  • Profiler: Fixed a bug causing the function and basic block modes to misattribute some interrupt time to the parent function/block.

Author's Comment:

  • Fixed crash when enabling extended PAL height with artifacting on and then disabling it with artifacting off.
  • Fixed frame blending (it was actually blending too much).
  • Fixed a bug when profiling sub-ranges of traces in the performance analyzer where some bogus entries would show up in the profiling results due to instructions getting mixed up.
  • Fixed profiler misattributing some instructions around interrupts in function and basic block modes. This showed up as bogus tagging of functions or blocks for interrupt time even though they never executed in interrupts.
  • The profiler can now disambiguate OS ROM and banked cartridge addresses. Since this can screw with symbol matching, global address support is an opt-in option in the Options drop-down.

I'm going to tweak the symbol loading but will have to think some more about it. One of the problems is that the symbol files aren't necessarily available after the initial load. Also, just delaying to debugger open isn't enough either as it means that any problematic debugger feature would still explode if the debugger was accidentally opened, which isn't that hard to do. Pure symbol files aren't much of a risk, but debugger scripts are more so.

Altirra 3.20 Beta III 27/10/2018

changes

  • AltirraOS is now versioned independently of the main emulator.

features added

  • Debugger: .disktrack now has an option for drive number.
  • Debugger: Added support for bank-specific addresses in MaxFlash cartridges using t:$XX'YYYY syntax.
  • Firmware: Version numbers are now displayed for the internal OS and BASIC ROM images.
  • Input: Added Arrow Keys -> Paddle A preset.

bugs fixed

  • AltirraOS: FDIV no longer returns 0 for 0/0.
  • AltirraOS: AFP(".") properly returns an error instead of 0.
  • AltirraOS: EXP10() was returning an error instead of underflowing to 0 for some large negative inputs.
  • AltirraOS: Pressing reset on the boot screen now forces BASIC to do a cold boot.
  • Debugger: Improved Turbo-Basic XL support in the .basic_vars and .basic_dumpstack commands.
  • Debugger: Fixed listing directives getting executed twice for carts.
  • Debugger: Step Over past an interrupt no longer exits the current scope.
  • Disk: Read Address now returns sectors with data CRC errors.
  • Disk: The non-standard sector size option of the 1771 is now partially supported.
  • Disk: Deleted sector marks can now be written by the Write Sector command.
  • Disk: Interrupted Write Sector commands now affect the disk image.
  • Disk: Rotate disk command now works with full disk drive emulation.
  • HLE: FP acceleration no longer returns 0 for 0/0.
  • UI: Fixed CIO acceleration options not being bound correctly in new configure system dialog.
  • VBXE: Overlay width setting %

Author's Comment:

  • Full disk emulation: Read Address FDC command no longer drops sectors with CRC errors, interrupted Write Sector commands still change the sector, Write Sector now overwrites the DAM and can remove CRC errors, and partial support for 1771 nonstandard sector sizes. This allows the Happy Copier to correctly copy CRC errors.
  • Rotate Disks now works correctly with full drive emulators.
  • Debugger: .disktrack can now be used with D2: and above; assert/trace directives are no longer run twice for carts; fixed non-816 modes occasionally showing the wrong effective address for abs,X/abs.Y modes in history; .basic* commands have improved support for Turbo-Basic XL.
  • Added support for debugging banked cartridges. Currently this is only implemented for MaxFlash cartridges, but the syntax is t:bank'offset, e.g. t:$04'A100 gives the memory location at $A100 after accessing $D504. This can matched to MADS banked symbols via special symbol names to tell the debugger the relationship between hardware banks and MADS banks. See Altirra Extended BASIC for an example.
  • VBXE now gives narrow width for the %11 width setting. (thx HeavenTQA!)
  • Fixed CPU microcode issue that caused Step Over to effectively become Step Out when an interrupt was encountered.
  • Fixed broken CIO acceleration options in Configure System.
  • Added input map preset for arrow keys -> paddle.
  • AltirraOS and Altirra BASIC now show version numbers in the firmware selectors and have changelists in the rom set HTML readme.
  • AltirraOS is now versioned separately from the emulator and updated to 3.11:
    • FDIV fixed so 0/0 properly gives an error instead of returning 0.
    • AFP no longer accepts a single period.
    • Fixed occasional bogus errors from EXP10.
    • Boot screen now stomps COLDST to force BASIC cold boot on reset.

Altirra 3.20 Beta II 16/09/2018

changes

  • Debugging symbols and debugger scripts are now only automatically loaded when the debugger is active.

features added

  • Debugger: #comments can now be used in .atdbg files.
  • Debugger: @(...) within an expression causes that subexpression to be evaluated immediately.
  • Debugger: .diskdumpsec now dumps phantom sectors for a virtual sector.
  • Disk: Added support for physical sector size chunk in ATX images.
  • Display: Added new overscan mode for typical widescreen displays.
  • Display: Added controls for scanline intensity and scaling overall display intensity.
  • Display: Optimized standard NTSC artifacting algorithm.

bugs fixed

  • Disk: Improved emulation of FDC not ready bit ($80).

Author's Comment:

  • Breaking change: Debugger scripts (*.atdbg) are no longer automatically loaded for images unless the debugger is enabled (/debug or via menu).
  • /portabletemp runs off an INI file but doesn't save any changes back to it, for testing.
  • Added support for ATX physical sector size tagging.
  • Fixed disk Not Ready status bit updating inconsistently in some cases.
  • Rotational delays are skipped for disk drives that have a ready signal -- 1050 emulated modes no longer have long delays reading from uninserted disks.
  • Fixed Not Ready being signaled for drives that don't support it (810).
  • Optimizations to ANTIC emulation and NTSC standard artifacting.
  • @(...) in debugger expressions evaluates the subexpression immediately. Example: bx pc=@(pc+100)
  • The .diskdumpsec debugger command now shows all physical sectors associated with the given virtual (logical) sector.
  • Added 'widescreen' overscan mode for the horizontal area commonly shown by modern widescreen LCDs. The visible area is 176 color clocks.
  • Added setting for scanline intensity.
  • Added intensity scale setting.

The intensity scale setting allows the entire display image to be easily scaled up or down without adjusting the rest of the controls. This could be done previously but required moving several controls in sync. The reason for this is to make it easier to darken the image produced by the emulator and turn up the physical monitor brightness for better color reproduction. This is especially useful when trying to match the colors from an 800, which naturally produces a dimmer and highly saturated image. Without this adjustment, the colors are warped due to hitting the limits of RGB space:

Turn the image down to 66%, and the purple turns to blue:

changes

features added

  • UI: Added a GUI option in settings for switching between portable and registry mode.

bugs fixed

  • Disk: Full disk emulators now report address CRC errors properly ($E7).
  • Disk: Improved accuracy of disk errors from XF551 full drive emulation.

Author's Comment:

  • There is now a command in Options to switch between Registry and portable mode for settings. Portable mode has been supported for a while, but this automatically moves the settings over as well.
  • Address CRC errors are now reported correctly for full disk drive emulators, and fixed error reporting issues specific to XF551 full emulation.
