Basin is a zx spectrum emulator combined developing environment for sinclair basic developers. It’s originally written by Paul Dunn and currently maintained by Arda (“Ref”). This is the only official page for Basin & it’s current fork, Basinc. Basin is discontinued and unsupported after version R14c. While development versions of R15.8 is available around internet but it’s never completed. While migrating to code to a new environment it got a bit messy and Paul stopped working on it and send the latest source code to me. The code couldn’t be compiled, because it got too many errors to fix. Rather than trying to figure out how to get it to compile, I used R14 as a base, which is kind of stable build but it was very limited compared to R15, and I integrated and updated the new functions of R15 into R14 source code.

Arcade Game Designer is a tool for creating ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC464 games. In fact, it's the tool we'd all have given our right arms for in the 1980s. Welcome to Rucksack Games. This is were you'll find my work on 8bit games. I loved them as a kid growing up and finally now after 30yrs I've got back to and have the means to create retro style text/graphic adventures and other games. Primarily for my first love the BBC Micro and Acorn Electron formats. Although I'm also developing ZX Spectrum games now. I hope some of you enjoy them as much as I did making them.

The aim of this project is ability to use files from ZX Spectrum emulators directly on original ZX Spectrum without modification of these files. There are lot's of ZX Spectrum programs and games in various formats on the internet and is not easy to use it on real Spectrum. This project is writen in Z80 assembler and runs on ZX Spectrum with IDE interface (most of IDE harddiscs, CDROMs, ATAPI ZIPdrives and CFs can be attached to this interface). Emulator files are stored on ISO9660 filesystem which is easy to understand and implement. ISOs can be stored on CDROMs (as usual) or stored like images on HD, CF and ZIPdrive.

The Sinclair ZX Spectrum was one of the most popular home computers in the early eighties. First released in 1982, it was equiped with a lightning fast 3.54 MHz Zilog Z80A microprocessor, 16KB or 48KB of RAM (later models housed an impressive 128KB) and it was able to display a resolution of 256x192 pixels in an overwhelming range of 8 colours (hence the name ‘Spectrum’). This machine was the first computer I ever owned and it taught me a lot about the way that computers (still) work. Its native programming language, called Sinclair Basic, is very accessible to novices and makes it easy to play around with text and graphics for instance. The simple architecture of the machine also makes it relatively easy to program in Z80 assembly. These pages are dedicated to some of the projects I did on this machine. Just because they were fun to do and other people might appreciate them as well... :)

At the time of the ZX81’s release, the Spectrum was in development as the ZX82 and was again an upgraded version of its predecessor, this time with colour graphics and an updated Basic. Even then, though, there were many ideas being bandied about as to what kind of micros the ZX83 and the inevitable ZX84 might be.

My name is Jonathan Cauldwell, and back in the late 1980s I began writing games for the ZX Spectrum computer. Several were published, the most famous of which were probably Egghead and Egghead to the Rescue, which appeared on Crash powertapes in 1990. The ZX Spectrum died as a mainstream games machine in 1993, but if you owned one of these machines in the years leading up to that time, the chances are you've played at least one of my games.

The Sam Coupé is an 8-bit microcomputer originally manufactured by Miles Gordon Technology in late-1989. A significant upgrade from the Sinclair ZX Spectrum on which its technology is partly based, it offered "16 bit features at an eight bit price" like full-colour graphics, stereo sound, a fast disk drive and new high-tech software - whilst still retaining compatability with the Spectrum's huge back catalogue of games. Here are some of the original Sam adverts.
I bought mine in 1991 and was still using it 10 years later - that's longer than any of my Macs have lasted! In the links to the left you'll find various pages related to the Sam, its software, its community and the various things I've done with it.

QUANTA is the independent user group for Sinclair QL users. It was formed in February 1984 with the aim of providing an independent source of support for, and sharing information about, the Sinclair QL. In time, it has expanded its brief to include compatible systems such as the ICL OPD (One Per Desk), CST Thor, Aurora and Q40/Q60, as well as emulators of the Sinclair QL running on other platforms.
