Roguecraft is a modern turn-based roguelike focused on simplicity and fun. It is a dungeon crawler where each play-through is a unique experience. As you progress in the game you will combat meaner monsters and tougher challenges.

You only have one life, so you have to be careful, but if you reach the end there are wonderful rewards to be gathered!

Roguecraft is currently under development for the Commodore Amiga, with other platforms to follow.

Backstory:

For time immemorial a legend has been told of a dark, deadly dungeon containing unimaginable horrors and riches beyond belief. Enough riches and magic to make you a king, or more.

You have been searching for this dungeon since you stumbled upon the legend in an ancient Egyptian library many years ago. It started with the rumor of an ancient dark being and a magic amulet. The legend tells of a wakening and of horrors to come. Your search carried you across the world, one riddle at a time.

Through many trials and perils you are now standing at the entrance of a dark and mystical dungeon far from where you started. You, Zendar, a fighter, a mage, or uh, a rogue ... are ready to defeat the monsters and gather the riches waiting below!

You just need to take a leak first.

The dungeons of Mordecoom are waiting!

Features:

  • Procedural generated levels.
  • Unique experience for each play-through.
  • Quick sessions - most games last 30-40 minutes to completion .
  • Glorious pixelated graphics.
  • Lovely music by Jogeir Liljedahl

Roguecraft is an enhanced version of Rogue64, our popular roguelike for Commodore 64 machines. Rogue64 won Game of The Year 2022 from FREEZE64 magazine, and was nominated multiple places. Read more about it on the Rogue64 game page.

Platforms:

Roguecraft is made for the Commodore Amiga, but the game can be run on Windows or OSX using emulators. WinUAE for Windows, and FS-UAE on OSX.  Set the emulator in Amiga1200 mode for the best experience.

I played the demo and loved it!  Great work!  Is there any idea when the full version will be released?

Thank you! We are planning on releasing the game very soon. Pre-orders for the physical version will be out within the summer. 😊

(+1)

Oh that's awesome!  I will definitely be ordering a physical version!

(+1)

This is just amazing!!! Great work, can't wait to play the full version. Congratulations!

(+1)

i just got my a500 mini and i am already addicted to this game :D

can't wait for the full game!!

nice job

(+1)

Great game! It reminds me Head Over Heels from Commodore 64. And if you could mix with that and some other games already available on that platform like Hero Quest and The Ball Game I think Roguecraft would be also possibly run on that platform.

(+1)

Thank you! It would definitely be a challenge to get this version of the game on a C64. If you like the game, then you might want to try Rogue64, which we made for the C64. 🙂

pretty good i love the chicken for noobs at the beggining im using retroarch and puae4all 2021 core this will be a keeper keep up the good work 7.8/10

Thanks! The chickens are are pretty scary little things. 😁 Nice to know it works on retroarch with uae4all!

(+2)

Epic!

One word is enough.

I got this running on a MiSTer, but can't figure out how to quit back to Workbench. Any help?

(1 edit) (+1)

Hi there! Thanks for playing our game! This work in progress does not have the option to quit. When we release the game we will make a WHDLoad version with an option to quit to Workbench. :)

Hi, the WIP freeze in Amiga 500+ 1MB. What Kickstart do you recommend?

Hi! Sorry for the late reply. I normally run the game on an emulated a1200 with KS3.0. But it should work fine on an a500+ also. It runs ok on an a500 with KS1.3. What KS are you running?

(+1)

Ok, is PAL now is working when I switch to palm

(+1)

This looks Great! Excellent work so far!

(+2)

Game feels very good, thank you. I also added it to my November's new Amiga games video too.

Thank you! A nice summary of upcoming games! 😊

(+1)

Will this run on a Miyoo Mini Plus?

Yes it should work on the Miyoo mini Plus. It works fine on my Miyoo mini regular 😊

(+1)

You're so cool

Does the game have enhanced graphics for AGA? Since it’s recomended to use A1200 mode in emulators?

Hi there. This game works fine in a500 mode too, with extra 512kb RAM. But since it is a work in progress demo of the game it is not fully optimized, so asset-generation between rooms might feel a little slow. That will get better at release. But if you choose to play in a1200 mode, then the room-switching is quicker, and gives a better playing experience. That is the only difference. There are no AGA gfx in Roguecraft :)

Please make a CD32 conversion of this great game. You could even offer an improved soundtrack on CD.

That's if you think redbook is superior to chip sound, which imo it isn't.

(+2)

Excellent game. Starts off not too difficult (which is useful for me)! but hard enough to keep you engaged. Great graphics and music. I tend to use the keyboard to emulate the joystick, so the 45 degree grid has me a little confused as to which direction is which :-) I'll get used to it. Thanks for supporting the Amiga.

(+2)

Really looking forward to the final game guys, keep up the awesome work!

WHDLoad?

(1 edit) (+1)

Sorry, no WHDLoad at the moment. Will most probably make one available when we release the final game. 🙂

(1 edit)

Grabbed the 0.4.3 version, but I can't seem to get it to work on my Amiga 500. When I run it my RAM usage goes up but it never leaves workbench. If I try booting with the floppy it just reads for awhile then I'm stuck at a black screen :(

Edit: Guess it seems that PAL mode is required?

Hi there,

I am afraid this demo needs PAL mode to work. When we get closer to release we will see if we can get it working on NTSC too, but that has not been a priority yet.

(+1)

Thanks for the quick response. Figured out I can switch my amiga to PAL mode through software and it works like a charm now!

(+1)

This looks great! Is there any chance of a future Mega65 port?

(+1)

Thank you! We do not have any plans for a Mega65 version at present I am afraid. We do love the Mega65 though 😊

(+2)

I guess then I’ll have to buy the Amiga version and hope for an Amiga core for the Mega65. Until then I’ll try it on a PiMiga

(+2)

Great game!

Thank you for the lovely video of the updated version! 😊

(+3)

Thanks for the update! Now it´s a lot faster to strafe through the dungeons and a lot more fun!

Thanks! We listened to the great feedback we have been given from the Amigamjam version. 😊

(1 edit) (+1)

Very nice and easy to understand dungeon crawler game even for beginners with damn good graphics - almost on Bitmap Brothers level. Only the music leaves something to be desired. Our German-language review can be found in our recorded livestream starting at 02:30:36. Automatic subtitles should be available soon (switch on, if necessary). Subscription to our YouTube or Twitch channel is welcome. 🙂

(+1)

Thank you, and Thanks for the nice play through! Subtitles worked ok. 🙂 We will soon be updating the game with instructions and a few bug fixes.

(+1)

Excellent, thanks a lot for this great game :)
Will you plan to release a WHDLOAD version too please ?

(+1)

Thank you!

We will be looking at a WHDLOAD version for release of the game.

I would love to play this game. Does it run on an emulator and which one can you recommend? I never used emulators so I am a bit lost here.
Thanks you in advance for help.

(+1)

Hi,

This game will run on WinUAE (if you are on Windows), or FS-UAE for Windows and OSX. It works best in Amiga1200 emulation mode, but should work in most emulation modes.

(+1)

Thank you. Works excellent :-)

do you have an LHA version of this game for the amiga 500 mini?

Hi there,

If you have the latest firmware update for the a500 mini, you will be able to load the adf file from an usb stick.

thanks, tried it still does not work, just get a failed to load, is there a command or setting i need to do during the boot on the mini ? :)

Hi again,

I just tried it out on my a500 mini, and it would only work when I selected the game, then pressed Menu for properties, and chose a1200. And then press Home to start the game. Then it works fine on the mini.  Let me know if that works for you. 😊

(+1)

thanks it worked : )

(+1)

Nice to finally try this. Does this work in NTSC mode? I get a black screen after the disk finishes loading. A500 NTSC with 1meg chip.

It loads fine in PAL mode and I'm able to play it.

Thanks for playing the game! I am afraid I have not run it on NTSC yet, but we will try to get it working properly on NTSC. The screen is set to 320x240 to make sure everything will display, but we haven't had time to look at NTSC yet.

(+3)

Great stuff. Tried it on my good ol' A500 with 1mb RAM and worked like a charm. But I couldn't help but notice that the game kept the floppy disk spinning the whole time without apparently reading anything from it. Any speficic reason for that?

(+1)

Great! Happy to hear that it works on the old A500. I still have to try the latest version on my old trusty A500 =)

I will have a look at the disc-spinning issue. I will be making a small update in a couple of days time. 😊

(+2)

supercool! Could you provide a WHDLoad version or at least something that can be started from workbench? Thanks!

(+1)

I have to admit I don't know much about WHDLoad, but I will have a look at it as soon as possible. :)

The game file is roguecraft.exe, you can simply copy it to another drive and run it from there. No WHDLoad needed.

(1 edit) (+1)

How do I drink a potion? So far it's pretty cool :)

Figured it out: Hold fire and select the potion.

Thank you :)

(+2)

Awesome game!

(+1)

Thank you! Lovely video!

It looks like you played on an a500. Good stuff! The a1200 does a faster transition between rooms, but otherwise the experience should be the same.

(+3)

Wow, looks fantastic! How many colours?

(+1)

32 colors. OCS compatible, with 1mb RAM =)

(+1)

Colour me impressed! (No pun intended! Just a coinkydink.) I thought this might very well be AGA--but read through the comments to find out. Surprised you didn't use EHB mode, as it looks like this graphic style could have taken advantage of the extra 32 half-bright colors of that mode.

I played it on FS-UAE, emulating an A500 with 1mb of RAM and it worked flawlessly! Very well made game.

(+3)

Looks very good. Thumbs up!

(+2)

very good

(1 edit) (+2)

Im looking forward to this game and will be ready (too loose my sanity) whatever we will need down in that dungeon

(+2)

very good

(+2)

This looks beautiful. Really looking forward to it!

(+2)

Impressive quality! I can't wait to see the final version.

(+2)

Looks so good can't wait to try it....even maybe with analogue pocket amiga 500 core ?? playing on the go would be awesome

(+2)

Looks gorgeous! Big thumbs up to the graphics artist. Gameplay loop looks like a ton of fun, can't wait to try it!

(+2)

Oooh that looks hot

(+1)

Yay, thank you for this great contribution to the Amiga :) Cannot wait ;)

Thank you! 😊
