Probably the first game in 3D environment in which you have the choice to go anywhere you want, drive or ride any vehicle you find. Goal of the mission can be achieved in many ways. There are also adventure elements like finding objects and talking to different people that you encounter. However the game seems a bit empty. Nevertheless it is one of a kind title - some sort of a pioneer.

Loved the vehicles but controls and missions let it down a bit.

I don't remember this from back in the day, but I am enjoying it now. The various styles of play are great, looks like a simulator, plays like an action game. A bit buggy when collecting items, I use the picking things up wiggle dance which usually works. Took the advice here to learn the helicopter, it helps alot, but I still save after every good landing!

I'm not sure I heard about this game at the time somehow, but it seems astonishing to me now. It may have scored okay in the magazines and been enjoyed by those who played it, but a full 3D game in the third person, with pick up and play mechanics and smooth scrolling, in 1991, seems awesome.

I liked C64 game Infiltrator quite a bit, especially its base missions. Now this... This was a dream come true! You could walk or get various means of transport for yer tired feet, and play it a million different ways. Gotta try this again!

This is one of those games that looked and felt brilliant but I just couldn't work out what I had to do.

Quite likely the first free-roaming game on land that is worth remembering. And a 3D one too, at that - the landscape reminds me of Virus. There's a little stealth as well.

Freedom! This is THE game for experiencing another world inside the Amiga. You could waste a day on this game without actually getting anywhere nearer to finishing it, and yet you don't really care! The experience of mastering the helicopter is worth firing this game up in the first place because, all those unreachable islands on the map, suddenly become places you can actually visit. It is also strangely scary in an ominous way as you wander these mostly deserted islands with sounds of the waves in the distance. Great atmosphere and just a superb game. 9/10

I just discovered this game review today. I've never played this game, or even heard of it, but looking at the description and the graphics, I have a feeling I would have loved this back in the day. Looks a little bit like Midwinter. I may have to give this a go!

I really wanted to get into this game as it looked great and seemed like a nice explore-y game. Without a manual I was pretty much stumped but still....

Brilliant game. I remember the sound of the waves and the sounds of te birds, very relaxing and calm! Loved playing this games for hours when I was 10 years old or so, Trying to swim across the islands without getting eaten by the sharks! Fond memories

Just reading through some comments.... I'm so glad that others loved this game as much as I did. Lol oh the horror of falling of a windsurf board and clambering to get back on it as a shark was swimming around, oh the good old days. Did anyone ever manage to complete any of the story???

I loved this as a kid. Loved the freedom it gave you. I remember I didnt give a crap about the story so I just drove around and found new vehicles to drive/fly and that was all good fun for me.

Great game! Freedom is the basis of the game, freedom to choose
actions, freedom to solve the missions, freedom of movement,
freedom to drive any vehicle. Really a gem.

After a while you feel like you really are in this surreal, simplistic looking world. Very atmospheric game. So many vehicles to ride - from bicycle to helicopter.

I got so much enjoyment out of this one. Still get the shivers when I think of the whole desolate atmosphere, with the occasional screeching seaguls and the humming of distant enemy vehicles. I remember the character turned into a tombstone when killed. Even on water.

I really liked this game back in the early 90's. I still do 2day. I enjoyed it alot and i knew it didnt have the best graphics and so forth but i didnt care. A great game no doubt.
Loved how you could drive all the different vehicles (car,Tank,Helicopters) and even rides bikes and wind-surf thingy....
Great game.

Incredible game, spent a bunch of hours in it. Way ahead of its time, like Midwinter, except playable.

An amazing game with some wonderfully stark 3D landscapes. You start playing and suddenly the whole afternoon has passed. Absorbing.

I never had an idea of what I have to do in this game. But It was fun whilst I was roaming around.

One of the very first "sandbox" games, a game you spend hours just doing nothing but exploring, games like this are the big thing at the minute, but look how long ago the idea was implemented. Superb, atmospheric free roaming adventure that many have copied since.

What a truly innovative game!
when you look at the majority of contemporary games you can see just how much they owe to hunter. I remember everybody going crazy when operation flashpoint was released because you could operate land, sea, and air vehicles. Well hunter was released 10 years earlier!!
think im gonna get my dusty Amiga from the attic...

Many fond memories of cycling up a hill whilst being pursued by a berzerk ambulance. It was wonderful relaxation just to windsurf around the islands for a while

First time I played Grand Theft Auto 3 on my friend's Playstation 2, I was immediately reminded of Hunter. Anyone else who played this back in 1991 got a glimse of the future...

This has been described as a precursor to the 3D 'GTA' games and it's easy to see why. Whilst the time-limits on many missions felt too strict, the sheer size of the gameplay environment, the different vehicles and the atmospheric sound effects and lighting make this a memorable and challenging game. Top egg.

One of my favourite games. First, I spent hours with my friends just by exploring areas and laughing at different vehicles (a rowing boat and a hovercraft were my favorites). I managed to complete "hunter" and "missions".

Kept me playing it non stop for about a year and still have a go now and then now, hunter is a fun game I also abandoned the missions after a while and just explored, sometimes you got such a amassive feeling of isolation in this game it was magnificent

A wonderful expansive 3D landscape and loads of vehicles to drive/fly about in - one of the first 3rd person 3D games I ever played and still one of the best - it ran smoothly and was just tough enough not to be frustrating.

Simple an awesome game! I'm sure one of the first things everybody does when they load this up is go to the stores, load up on ammo, then return to your HQ and let it have it! It is quite amusing to try this on an AGA machine without the WHDLoad patch as you get weird messages appearing such as "You do not need another house". And for dazedemon - you can safely land the helicopter by pressing the Help key.

A small gem. Very entertaining 3D game, with freedom to explore besides just completing the objectives. I liked Midwinter II as well, so it figures, but this was much more playable.

Spent loads of time with this game, most of which doing absolutely nothing Just going around, exploring here and there and trying the different vehicles was so fun that I always forgot about the game's objectives A nice concept and a neat execution for a really great game.

Explore a vast island in search for items, board various vehicles including tanks and boats. It's quite entertaining to chase animals around. Good game that keeps you busy.
