QUOD INIT EXIT (update Oct. 5, 2017: v1.8 released)

Post by saimo »

Hello,

here's the preview of a game I started working on back in November 2008, during a break from the development of BOH.
The game is called "HOC INIT EXIT", which is Latin for "whatever gets in, gets out" (it's a joke among a group of friends of mine - unfortunately, it would be too long to explain).

Image

Since I don't know when/if I'll be able to finish it, I decided to release it as it's fully playable anyway (missing features: special phase at the end of levels, sound and scores): whoever is interested can download the D64 image from here.

Enjoy!

Cool, looks pretty neat. I'm looking forward to trying it.

Incidentally, I just picked up my boxed copy of BOH today, from the post office (i'm the guy from the comments thread on tigsource). Looks nice! :)

I'm glad you like its aspect. The game is simple - it's a joke! - and incomplete, but may be entertain for a little a while

Uhm... let me guess, are you nullerator?
I'm very happy to hear the package arrived to destination (it's always a big relief to hear that) and that you like it :)

Looks really nice! Never seen so much hires in a c64 game before.
Plays kind of good too. Really great work!

Thanks for everything. I'm happy you're enjoying it even if it's incomplete :)

@Saimo,

I have some unused music you could use for your game if you're interested? It was originally composed for a different game, but that particular game never got finished, or released.

Cracking visuals :) Kind of reminds me of Zool on the Amiga. Great start - I look forward to seeing the completed game.

Thanks, that would be cool! But development at the moment frozen, and it's impossible now to say when/if I'll resume it :(

Well, sorry to bring your hopes down, but that isn't going to happen anytime soon :(

Hi Richard, I have decided to at least add audio to the game, so, if you're still interested, you could contribute. I just posted the specifications of what I need in this thread on CSDb (by the way, accidentally you and your games happened to be dragged in the discussion, I hope you don't mind).

I tried this thinking I'd give it a shot for a minute and played it until level 22. Nice arcade game and it would certainly be nice to have sounds.

It would also benefit from a few small features, like bad food, or a timer that keeps track of how fast you beat levels. (score seems sort of useless in a game like this since you can stay on a level indefinitely)
